Iran's first VP invites Shanghai Cooperation Organization to invest in Chabahar Port

Iran's First Vice president Eshaq Jahangiri has invited the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states to participate in development of Chabahar port and improve banking mechanisms with Iran, Trend reports citing IRNA.

"I would like to use the opportunity to invite the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) to participate in this mega project," he said during the 19th meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Heads of Government, hosted by India.

"The importance of Chabahar Port and its connection to railway to Afghanistan and Central Asia has pushed Iran to set up the Chabahar- Zahedan railway," said Jahangiri.

"In this regard, utilizing capacity of Chabahar Port in improving the International North South Transportation Corridor , and China's One Belt One Road initiative could be considered," he said

"The establishment of transit center and regional transportation under framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization would accelerate and develop economic cooperation," Jahangiri said.

"Iran's special geographical, historical, cultural and economic location could connect to various regions including Central Asia and the Caucasus, West Asia and the Middle East. Iran is located between the Caspian Sea in north and the Persian Gulf and Oman sea in south, and it is ready to be one of the energy centers and transportation routes in the region with member states of cooperation of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) to improve mutual economic targets," he said.
