German companies interested in funding Azerbaijan's railway projects

The Chairman of Azerbaijan Railways CJSC Javid Gurbanov met with the German Ambassador to the country Wolfgang Manig, a source in the company told Trend.

According to the source, Gurbanov informed the ambassador in detail about the reforms recently carried out on the railways of Azerbaijan, the work done towards the implementation of international transport corridors, as well as about the prospects.

"The parties discussed the role of the International North-South Transport Corridor, development strategy, passenger and cargo transportation along the international transport corridor, issues of cooperation with the participating countries in this direction,” said the source. “It was noted that the North-South corridor will play an important role in development and expansion of economic ties with other countries of the region, which, carrying out export-import operations along this route, increase trade turnover."

The CJSC’s chairman emphasized that in order to update the contact network of railways, purchase works on the design and reconstruction of communication and signaling systems, as well as the energy sector, work is underway to attract companies through tender processes. It was emphasized that German companies are also participating in the tender.

Besides, he pointed out that Azerbaijan Railways CJSC cooperates with international companies from Germany, Switzerland and Austria.

In turn, Manig spoke in detail about the history of creation and stages of development of the German Railways JSC.

He noted the interest of German companies in expanding bilateral ties, investing in projects to be implemented in the railway sector in Azerbaijan.
