Uzbekistan and Belarus reached agreement to increase the quota of permits for road transport of goods for the current year, Trend reports citing the press service of the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Belarus following a meeting of the Belarusian-Uzbek mixed commission on international road traffic.

It is reported that taking into account the mutual trade turnover and the dynamic development of the sphere of international road transport of goods, Uzbekistan and Belarus recognized it expedient to carry out work on amending the agreement regarding the abolition of the licensing system for all types of road transport.

In addition, an agreement was reached during the meeting on increasing the quota of permits for road transport for the current year and on a preliminary quota for the exchange of permits for 2022.

It is noted that the cooperation in transport sector became one of the issues for discussion at a meeting of the joint intergovernmental commission on cooperation between Belarus and Uzbekistan chaired by Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Alexander Subbotin and Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan, Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Sardor Umurzakov.

“Cooperation between countries in this area not only remained at the same level, but also successfully expanded despite the COVID-19 pandemic. Based on the results of work for 2020, almost all aspects showed stable growth or retained positions similar to 2019. Mutual trade in transport services between the two countries increased by almost 80 percent compared to 2019.

Furthermore, the Belarusian railway has worked out all the technical and technological issues necessary for organizing the running of the Minsk-Tashkent freight train in both directions. It was noted that the parties will continue interaction on the formation of competitive conditions for the carriage of goods by rail.

As for air transport, there was an increase in passenger traffic in 2020 despite the COVID-19 pandemic, which indicates the demand for air travel in this direction.

In addition, the sides agreed to hold consultations between the aviation authorities on the issue of increasing the frequency of scheduled flights.
