Containers are delivered to the Baku International Sea Port (Port of Baku) mainly from Central Asia, the port’s General Director Taleh Ziyadov said, Trend reports referring to the port.
According to Ziyadov, containers transported from the port to China account for 15 percent of the total cargo turnover.
"Now most of the containers from China to Europe are transported across Kazakhstan and Russia. However, in the coming years, we expect an increase in the share of China in our direction. This opportunity will be created through expansion of activities on the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TMTM or Middle Corridor) and a great demand for cargo transportation by rail in Baku-Tbilisi-Kars ", he noted.
In 2020, cargo transportation in the Baku port, which is an important part of the TMTM, exceeded 4.8 million tons.
"This is 20 percent more than in 2019. Transit cargoes in the Baku port make up 87 percent of the total cargo turnover. Besides, last year we received an income of 30.7 million manat ($18.06 million) excluding value added tax, which is 37 percent more than in 2019," stressed the general director.
