Transit through Iran’s Chabahar port increases

The volume of exports through the Chabahar port in the Sistan and Baluchestan Province (southeastern Iran) increased by 381 percent in the last year (from March 20, 2020, through March 20, 2021), compared to the preceding Iranian year (from March 21, 2019, through March 19, 2020), Director-General of Ports and Maritime Department in Sistan and Baluchestan Province, Behrouz Aghaei said, Trend reports referring to the Iranian Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO).

The director-general emphasized that the transits through the Chabahar port also increased by 82 percent.

“Four contracts were signed on the making of investments in the Chabahar port in the last Iranian year. The total value of these contracts amounted to 25 trillion rials (about $595 million),” he added.

Aghaei noted that the exports of fishery products produced in the Sistan and Baluchestan Province have been carried out to the Far East countries through the Chabahar port for the first time.

The director also said that in addition, an average of daily 15,500 tons of cargo was loaded and 11,000 tons were unloaded in Chabahar port, which are record figures in the port.

As reported, a total of 3.19 million tons of cargo were loaded and unloaded in Iran’s Chabahar port in the preceding Iranian year (from March 21, 2019, through March 19, 2020). About, 73,500 tons of these goods were exported and 1.14 million tons were imported. About 1,600 tons of goods were transited.
