Iran's Rasht-Anzali railway line to be put into operation

The Rasht-Anzali railway line in the Gilan Province (northern Iran) will be launched in the current Iranian year (from March 21, 2021 through March 20, 2022), Deputy Minister of Iran's Roads and Urban Development, CEO of Construction and Development of Transportation Infrastructure Company (CDTIC) Kheirollah Khademi said, Trend reports citing the ministry.

The deputy minister stressed that the 41 km long railway line will connect the center of Gilan Province to the Anzali port.

Khademi added that there is a 63-percent progress in the construction of this railway line, which covers an important part of the North-South Corridor.

The CEO also noted that so far, 7 km of rails have been laid on the Rasht-Anzali railway line.

“So far, 8 trillion rials (about $190 million) has been spent on the construction of the railway line. More 3 trillion rials (about $71.4 million) is needed to improve the work on the railway. Of this, about 1 trillion rials (about $23.8 million) has already been paid,” he said.

As reported, Iran's Construction and Development of Transportation Infrastructure Company is building the Rasht-Anzali railway to increase Iran's imports, exports and transit.

Iran intends to transit products from northern countries to the Persian Gulf and vice versa by this way. It is reported that this railway line will play an important role in improving the North-South Corridor.
