Passenger traffic by air plummets worldwide

Global passenger transportation by air in February 2021 amounted to 74.4 percent out of the same month of 2020, Trend reports citing the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

According to the IATA, at the same time, passenger traffic on international lines decreased by 88.7 percent in annual terms, on domestic - by 51 percent.

“The reduction rate of passenger traffic by air in Europe and the Middle East amounted to 82.8 and 81.7 percent, respectively. In the Asia-Pacific region, this indicator decreased by 74.9 percent, in North America and Africa - by 66.1 percent, and in Latin America - by 62.4 percent,” the association said.

From January through February 2021, 59,300 passengers were transported by air in Azerbaijan, which is 82.6 percent less compared to the same period of 2020. At the same time, freight traffic in the country increased by 74 percent over the year - up to 79,000 tons.
