BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 3

The main task of MasterCard in Azerbaijan is to cover the entire territory of the country with a non-cash payment system, MasterCard Country Manager for Azerbaijan, Erdem Chakar told Trend.
"To do this, we are negotiating and considering several districts, including Baku," he said.
According to Chakar, the company is currently implementing a pilot project to introduce a non-cash payment system for public transport in Azerbaijan.
“The country’s Shamakhi district is already live with 18 buses equipped with validators. In the near future, we accept a significant amount of bus fares to be cashless. People, who pay the bus fare cashless, will also pay other things cashless. Therefore, we as Mastercard are making a campaign in Shamakhi,” the MasterCard representative said.
Currently, MasterCard and Maestro cardholders benefit from free rides on Monday and Friday in Shamakhi when they use their contactless cards in public transportation, he noted.
"Also, holders of these bank cards can use them at other sites in this city in accordance with the campaign conducted by MasterCard," the expert said.
