The Azerbaijani ports handled 2.3 million tons of cargo from January through March 2021, which is by 1.6 percent less than in the same period of last year, Trend reports with reference to the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee.
According to the ministry, 2.2 million tons accounted for the transshipment of international transit cargo by the ports or 96.4 percent of the total cargo volume, which is by 0.4 percent less compared to the same period of last year.
As of early April, there were 59,000 tons of cargo in the Azerbaijani ports.
The highest rate during the last 28 years on the transshipment of containers and wheeled vehicles was observed in the Baku International Sea Trade Port in 2019.
Some 8.8 million tons of cargo were transported through the Azerbaijani seaports in 2020, of which 8.2 million tons or 93.2 percent, accounted for international transit cargo, while 7.8 percent - for local cargo.
