Turkey publishes quarterly volume of goods shipped via Iskenderun port

The volume of transshipment of goods via Turkish Iskenderun port made up 13.6 million tons in the first quarter of 2021, Turkey’s Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure told Trend.

According to the ministry, in the reporting period, 363,495 tons of cargo were handled via the port of Iskenderun by ships flying the Turkish flag, and 13.2 million tons - by ships flying the flags of other countries.

"At the same time, the volume of the cargo movement in transit through the port of Iskenderun amounted to 322.283 tons," the ministry said.

The volume of cargo transshipment through the ports of Turkey exceeded 94.6 million tons in the first two months of 2021.

According to the ministry, in the reporting period, the volume of cargo transshipment by ships flying the Turkish flag amounted to over 7.4 million tons.

From January through March of this year, more than 87.1 million tons of cargo had been handled by ships flying the flags of other countries, the ministry said.

Meanwhile, 18.4 million tons of cargo were transited through the ports of Turkey.

In March 2021, over 32.1 million tons of cargo were handled through the ports, including 2.8 million tons by ships flying the Turkish flag, and more than 29.2 million tons by ships flying the flags of other countries.

Besides, more than 5.9 million tons of cargo were transported in transit through the ports of Turkey in the reporting month, added the ministry.
