AvtoVAZ eyes launching assembly of Lada and Renault cars in Uzbekistan

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 21

Russian AvtoVAZ car manufacturer plans to launch an assembly of Lada and Renault cars in Uzbekistan, Trend reports with reference to Uzbek media.

According to President of AvtoVAZ Nicolas Maure, the company has a local partner in Uzbekistan. He also noted that it is planned to launch assembly operations in Uzbekistan in the next 12 months.

Maure stressed that the assembly of Lada will be organized first and later - Renault.

In addition, president of AvtoVAZ said that the market share in Uzbekistan will remain quite small due to presence and operation of UzAuto in the local market.

At the end of 2020, AvtoVAZ saw drop of export sales of Lada by 19 percent compared to 2019, to 41,000 cars. Also in 2020, the company's sales in Russia decreased by five percent, to 343,500 cars.
