Cargo transportation by all types of transport slightly decreases in Azerbaijan

Some 92.2 million tons of cargo were transported by all types of transport in Azerbaijan from January through June 2021, which is by 4.2 percent less than in the same period of last year, Trend reports citing the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee's report.

At the same time, 56.7 percent of all cargo was transported by vehicles, 32.3 percent via pipeline, 7.8 percent by trains, 3 percent by ships and 0.2 percent by planes.

The cargo transportation in the private sector decreased by 5.1 percent from January through June 2021 compared to the period from January through June 2020, while this sector accounted for 77.5 percent of all cargo transportation.

Some 555.1 million passengers were transported by all types of transport in Azerbaijan from January through June 2021, which is by 24.3 percent less than in the same period of 2020.

Most of the passengers (97.7 percent) were transported by vehicles, two percent - via metro and 0.3 percent - via other means of transport.

Some 7.2 million tons of cargo were transported via trains from January through June 2021 (increase of 0.3 percent on an annualized basis), as well as 1.1 million passengers, which is by 16.5 percent less than a year earlier.

Almost 2.8 million tons of cargo were transported by ships from January through June 2021, which is by 7.9 percent less than in the same period of last year. The share of oil in the total transportation of goods amounted to 38.8 percent.

The volume of cargo handled in the Azerbaijani ports exceeded 4.6 million tons, of which 95.3 percent accounted for transit cargo (4.3 million tons).

As of July 1, 117,400 tons of cargo remained in ports.

Some 52.2 million tons of cargo were transported by vehicles from January through June 2021, which is by 7.2 percent less than in 2020.

Some 345,500 passengers were transported by planes from January through June 2021, which is by 22.7 percent less than in the same period of last year.

Cargo transportation by planes in the first half of the year increased by 22.9 percent up to 227,700 tons.
