The value of railway cargo transportation carried out by Azerbaijan from January through August 2021 rose, Trend reports on Sept.17 citing a report from the State Customs Committee (SCC).
According to the committee, this figure amounted to $1.9 billion, up by $274.9 million or 16.8 percent on annual basis.
In the first eight months of this year, nearly 4.3 million tons of cargo have been transported by rails, which is 147.8 million tons or 3.3 percent less compared to the same period of 2020, the committee said.
The volume of export cargo transportation by rails in the reporting period made up slightly over two billion tons, and the value stood at over $679.6 million (a surge of 2.3 times), the SCC report said.
At the same time, the volume of imports by rails was slightly more than 2.3 million tons, and the value - $1.2 billion (a decrease of 8.4 percent), added the committee.
As earlier reported, Azerbaijan's foreign trade turnover from January through August 2021 made up $20.2 billion. Of these, exports accounted for $12.9 billion, and imports – $7.3 billion.
