Iran proposes strategies to accelerate International North-South corridor construction

TEHRAN, Iran, Sept. 29

Iran`s Anzali Free Zone will be connected to the national railway network by the end of the current Iranian year (ends on March 21, 2022), the CEO of Anzali Free Zone Organization Ali Owsat Akbari Moghaddam announced, Trend reports citing IRNA.

Moghaddam made the remarks during a joint meeting with Russian officials, devoted to activating the International North-South Corridor through the cooperation of Iranian and Russian free zones.

The meeting participants discussed solutions and proposals of the Iranian and Russian sides in order to speed up the North-South Corridor construction, as well as to attract investments.

Moghaddam expressed the Organization`s readiness to develop bilateral logistics and rail cooperation with the Russian side.

Moghaddam addressed the establishment of joint commercial offices, applying Common Customs Tariffs, the formation of a joint banking-insurance consortium and the signing of cooperation agreements between the shipping companies of the two countries as the main solutions for speeding up the construction of North-South corridor.

The International North–South Transport Corridor (INSTC) is a 7,200-km-long multi-mode network of ship, rail, and road route for moving freight between India, Iran, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Russia, Central Asia and Europe. The route primarily involves moving freight from India, Iran, Azerbaijan and Russia via ship, rail and road.
