By Elnur Baghishov – Trend:

The transit of goods by trucks through Iran amounted to 5.1 million tons during the first seven months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through October 22, 2021), Director General of the Transit and International Affairs Department of Iran Road Maintenance and Transportation Organization (RMTO) Javad Hedayati told Fars News Agency, Trend reports.

According to Hedayati, transited goods for 7 months were transported by 240,000 trucks.

“Meanwhile, in the same period last Iranian year, a total of 2.2 million tons of goods were transited by 102,000 trucks,” he said.

The director general also stressed that the transit of goods by trucks through Iran for the first seven months of the current Iranian year exceeded the total transit in last Iranian year (March 20, 2020 through March 20, 2021). So, 4.8 million tons of gods were transited by 220,000 trucks last Iranian year.

“Thus, the transit of goods by trucks through Iran is expected to increase to 8.5-9 million tons this year (March 21, 2021 through March 20, 2022)," he said.

Hedayati noted that as a test, cargo has been transported 5-6 times from Pakistan, the UAE and the countries around south of Persian Gulf to Russia, Azerbaijan and Turkey though trucks over the past two months.

This is considered an important opportunity for Iran. Because, before that most of the cargo was carried by sea.
