The volume of railway cargo transportation carried out by Azerbaijan from January through September 2021 slightly decreased, Trend reports citing the Azerbaijan Railways CJSC.
According to the company, this figure amounted to 10.97 million tons, down by 0.4 percent on annual basis.
In the first nine months of this year, international cargo traffic made up over 5.4 million tons or 45.6 percent, which is five percent less than in the same period of 2020, the company said.
Over 3.4 million tons accounted for transit (growth of 15.4 percent year on year), and 2.08 million tons - for domestic cargo traffic (decrease of 0.95 percent).
The number of containers transported along the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) railway corridor from January through September 2021 made up 17,635 TEU containers, which is an increase of 9,598 containers or 84 percent compared to the first nine months of last year.
