The negotiations are underway between the Azerbaijani and Iranian state structures on construction of the Astara-Rasht transport corridor, which will connect the railways of two countries, Adviser to the Azerbaijani minister of digital development and transport Aida Badalova told Trend.
“We keep this issue on the agenda,” Badalova said. “The work is underway to assess the future prospects of this project, its capacity, opportunities for the countries and the region as a whole.”
The railway between Iran’s Rasht city and Azerbaijan’s Astara city is connected in the south with Chabahar port and it will be possible to send cargo through it from India and the countries of Southwest Asia to the north and in the opposite direction.
Earlier the information was spread that the construction of the railway between Rasht and Astara cities will contribute to the growth of the rail freight transport volume between Azerbaijan and Iran and transit freight transport volume.
