BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 30. Construction work is currently underway to launch the Rasht-Caspian railway line in the Gilan Province (northern Iran), Director of Public Relations and International Affairs in Anzali Free Zone Organization Mehdi Kazemian told Trend.
According to Kazemian, the construction of the Rasht-Caspian railway will be completed in the first six months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through September 22, 2022).
The director added that there is currently 70-percent physical progress in the construction of the railway line. There will be two stations on the railway line.
“The railway is being built under the supervision of the Iranian Ministry of Roads and Urban Development. A small part of the funds needed for the construction of the railway line was provided by the Anzali Free Trade and Industrial Zone, while the main part - by the Construction and Development of Transportation Infrastructures Company (CDTIC),” he said.
The Rasht-Caspian railway is part of the North-South Corridor. The railway will connect Southeast Asian countries and China to Eastern Europe via the Persian Gulf. Through railway lines, the duration of cargo transportation will be reduced by about 4 weeks.
The railway plays an important role in the country's imports and exports, as well as in the transit of goods from countries in northern Iran to countries around the Persian Gulf, other countries, and vice versa.
