BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 13. Azerbaijani carriers will be able to increase their share in cargo shipments through the East-West and North-South international transport corridors, the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport of Azerbaijan told Trend.

According to the ministry, the approval of new rules for the admission of local carriers to international road shipments by the Cabinet of Ministers will help increase the competitiveness of local carriers in international markets, and increase their share in bilateral and transit traffic.

"The new rules will regulate the process of registration of operators by the Azerbaijan Land Transport Agency under our ministry. According to the rules, legal entities or individuals wishing to register as a carrier must be registered with the tax authorities, have the appropriate vehicles, and also meet certain criteria related to the business reputation and financial standing," the ministry explained.

Besides, according to the ministry, one of the goals of approval of the rules for the admission of carriers to international transportation by the Cabinet of Ministers is the application in Azerbaijan of the requirements of the Quality Charter of the International Transport Forum, which is the leading regulatory mechanism in the field of road transport.

"The quality charter establishes the relevant requirements for the institution, its business reputation, financial stability and professional competence, allows organizations meeting these requirements to carry out the shipments. This will contribute to the efficient organization of road transport, the sustainable development of the industry and the increase in investment potential," added the ministry.

On April 12, 2022, the Cabinet of Ministers of Azerbaijan approved the "Rules for admission to international passenger and freight transportation by road" by its decision. The corresponding decision was signed by Prime Minister Ali Asadov.
