BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 24. Lithuania is keen to explore the potential of the TRACECA (Europe-Caucasus-Asia) transport corridor, Ambassador of Lithuania to Azerbaijan Egidijus Navikas said in an exclusive interview with Trend.
“It offers a unique opportunity to develop Trans-Caspian railway corridor as a viable alternative to routes from Asia to Europe bypassing Russian territory,” said the envoy.
Navikas recalled that an intergovernmental Agreement on International Road Transport between Lithuania and Azerbaijan was signed on 18 May 2022.
“Cooperation on transport and logistics between our countries has great potential. Lithuania as an EU country with well developed road, rail, intermodal and seaport infrastructure and services, offers an advantageous logistics entry to the EU market,” he said.
TRACECA corridor is involved in gradually developing trends of
trade and economic development. Major traffic flows passing through
a corridor formed on the one hand, in Western and Central Europe,
and on the other - in Central and South-East Asia.
The attractiveness of TRACECA countries confirmed by their interest
extending regional cooperation and development services.
After the completion of the Strategy implementation with the
support of the European Union Technical Assistance projects the
TRACECA countries are prepared to get down to a new stage of the
Europe-the Caucasus-Asia corridor development.
