First Russia-India train crosses over INSTC through Iran

TEHRAN, Iran, July 14. Russia has started sending goods to India via the International North South Transport Corridor (INSTC), Minister of Roads and Urban Development of Iran Rostam Ghasemi said, Trend reports citing Mehr.

The goods in 39 consignments for India were sent to Iran's Shahid Rajaei port for onward shipping to Indian west coast ports.

Pointing to transport and transit agreements with Russia, Ghasemi said that Iran has also signed same contracts with Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan.

He said Iran eyes to activate the East-West corridor to maximize the Islamic Republic's transit revenues, as well as political benefits.

Stakeholders believe the INSTC routing also helps shorten the transit time between India and Russia to 25 days from about 40 under other available connections.
