TEHRAN, Iran, November 14. Passenger train between the cities of Isfahan and Zahedan in Iran's southeastern province of Sistan-Baluchistan will be launched in the near future, Deputy Minister of Road and Urban Development of Iran Khairullah Khademi announced, Trend reports citing IRNA.
Zahedan-Khash Railway as a part of the largest infrastructural project in the east of Iran namely the Chabahar-Zahedan-Sarakhs Railroad is inaugurated on Thursday.
Khademi stated that the 640 kilometers Zahedan-Chabahar rail line is Iran's largest railway project in Iran.
“Currently, the government has 3300 kilometers of railway projects in progress, the longest and most difficult one is the Chabahar-Zahedan railway project with 640 km length,” Khademi noted.
The official put the current physical progress of the project at 62 percent, saying that a total of $1.7 billion have been allocated to the Zahedan-Khash Railway project from various sources.
“Zahedan-Chabahar railway project is a part of the country's north-south corridor, the Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development said.
