BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 9. Passenger transportation via Iran’s Imam Khomeini International Airport in Tehran Province (northern Iran), increased by 88 percent, during the first nine months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through December 21, 2022), compared to the same period last Iranian year, head of the airport Saeed Chalandari said, Trend reports referring to the Iranian Ministry of Roads and Urban Development.

The official noted that more than 5.3 million passengers were transported through Imam Khomeini Airport in 9 months. So that passengers traveled to Iran from 47 countries and from Iran to 26 countries via the mentioned airport for the reporting period.

“In total, approximately 2.62 million passengers entered the country and 2.69 million left the country through the airport within nine months,” he said.

According to Chalandari, a total of 35,400 flights were carried out from Imam Khomeini Airport in 9 months, which is an increase of 66 percent compared to the same period last Iranian year. Thus, 17,704 passenger planes landed at the airport, while 17,705 passenger planes took off from this airport during the mentioned period.

The official also pointed out that 375 tons of cargo were transported by passengers in 9 months. This shows a 61 percent increase compared to the same period last Iranian year.

Chalandari added that most of the flights were carried out by Iran's ‘Mahan’ airlines, ‘IranAir’ airlines and ‘Turkish Airlines’. The most of passengers were transported in direction to Istanbul, Najaf and Dubai.
