BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 21. Road freight between Azerbaijan and Türkiye has significantly increased amidst the current geopolitical realities, Board Member of the Azerbaijan International Road Carriers Association (ABADA) Azad Jafarov told Trend.

According to him, during 2022, the growth in cargo transportation comprised nearly 60 percent compared to 2021.

"I'd like to remind that the ABADA had boosted road freight quotas to Türkiye. Furthermore, the cargo traffic from Iran to Azerbaijan is also growing," he said.

Jafarov said that from March 1, 2023, cargo carriers won't be required to submit permit forms for the freight traffic. In addition, since April 2023, cargo carriers that operate informally won't be allowed to become members of the Association.

"Special cards will be issued for the driver and his car in order to become an ABADA member and carry out domestic and international cargo transportation. I'd also like to emphasize that these reforms would contribute to the transport development, as well as increase transparency in the logistics and cargo transportation sector," he added.
