BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 15. As many as 500 new and repaired locomotives and wagons were put into use in Iran’s Tehran city, on March 15, Trend reports citing Iranian Ministry of Roads and Urban Development.
Overall, 21.7 trillion rials (about $517 million) has been spent on the purchase/repair of the locomotives and wagons.
So, 453 new freight wagons worth approximately 10.2 trillion rials (about $242 million), 6 new locomotives worth about 4.2 trillion rials (about $100 million), 3.15 trillion rials (about $75 million) and 9 repaired locomotives were put into use in Tehran.
Also, 10 new passenger wagons worth 2 trillion rials (about $47.6 million) and 22 repaired passenger wagons worth 2.2 trillion rials (about $52.3 million) were put into use.
Generally, 1,660 wagons and locomotives worth 57.6 trillion rials (about $1.37 billion) have been put into use in Iran since the beginning of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2022). Of those, 1,570 were new freight wagons, 23 were new locomotives, 10 were new passenger wagons, as well as 17 were repaired locomotives, and 40 were repaired passenger wagons.
From the beginning of the current Iranian year to date, Iran followed a 3-stage plan to put the trains on rails:
- 319 railway vehicles worth 9.46 trillion rials (about $225 million) in the 1st stage;
- 413 railway vehicles worth about 10.3 trillion rials (about 245 million dollars) in the 2nd stage;
- 428 railway vehicles worth about 16.2 trillion rials (about $385 million) in the 3rd stage.
