Loading/unloading activity at Iran’s Imam Khomeini Port shrinks

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 13. The volume of cargo loaded and unloaded at Iran’s Imam Khomeini port in Khuzestan Province (south-western Iran), decreased by 20.8 percent in the 1st month of the current Iranian year (March 21 through April 20, 2023), compared to the same month in the last year, Trend reports via the statistics of Iranian Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO).

Overall, 2.88 million tons of cargo were loaded and unloaded at the Imam Khomeini port in the 1st month. Of this, 1.65 million tons were loaded and 1.23 million tons were unloaded.

“About 1.5 million tons of cargo were exported and about 1.13 million tons were imported through the Imam Khomeini port over the reporting month. At the same time, 61,700 tons of cargo were loaded in the port for transit,” the statistics said.

Within the 1st month, 93,600 tons of cargo were loaded and approximately 99,000 tons were unloaded in the port for cabotage.

Furthermore, 108 tons of cargo were loaded and 284 tons were unloaded for other purposes.

Nearly 828,000 tons of essential products, about 105,000 tons of metal products, 518,000 tons of construction and mining materials, 179 tons of equipment, vehicles, and spare parts, and 211,000 tons of chemicals were loaded and unloaded at the Imam Khomeini port during the 1st month of the current Iranian year.

Moreover, approximately 53,100 tons of leather, clothing, fibers, paper and wood materials, 54,500 tons of container products, and 1.11 million tons of crude oil and oil products were loaded and unloaded in this port within the mentioned month.

In total, 11.9 million tons of cargo were loaded and unloaded in Iranian ports in the 1st month of the current Iranian year. Of this, 5.22 million tons were loaded and 6.68 million tons were unloaded. This is a decrease of 0.7 percent compared to the same month last Iranian year.
