BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 20. Marine cargo transportation in Azerbaijan exceeded 2.6 million tons from January through April 2023, which is 26.4 percent more than in the same period last year, the State Statistics Committee of the country told Trend.
Passenger transportation by sea in the reporting period amounted to 6,700 people, which is 52.3 percent more year-on-year.
At the same time, transshipment of cargo by seaports of the country in the reporting period reached over 3.7 million tons. Of these, 81.6 percent, or 3 million tons, accounted for transit cargo.
Moreover, 57.3 percent of Azerbaijan's sea export cargo transportation accounted for oil.
The volume of cargo in the ports of the country totaled 124,100 tons as of May 1.
Overall, cargo transportation by all means of transport in the country from January through April 2023 amounted to 71.2 million tons, which is 5.9 percent higher year-on-year.
