BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 6. The cost of cargo transportation by rail in Azerbaijan increased by almost 48.4 percent in the first quarter of 2023, Trend reports.
According to the State Statistics Committee of Azerbaijan, the profit from cargo transportation in the reporting period amounted to over 104.8 million manat or $61.6 million (an increase of 33 million manat or $19.4 million).
The profit from rail transportation amounted to 70.9 million manat ($41.7 million), and from passenger transportation - 657,600 manat ($386,823) from January through March last year.
Over 4.4 million tons of cargo and more than 1.5 million passengers were transported by rail in Azerbaijan in the first quarter of this year, which is 17 and 60 percent more, respectively, compared to the period from January through March 2022.
