ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, October 26. Astrakhan region of Russia is ready for closer cooperation with Turkmenistan in the field of shipbuilding, Trend reports.

This was stated by the Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Astrakhan region Denis Afanasyev at the 28th International Conference and Exhibition 'Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan – 2023' (OGT-2023).

"We have good prospects in the field of shipbuilding, we cooperate quite actively in this direction. Our shipyards are ready for full-fledged cooperation with the Turkmenistan's Balkan shipyard and ship repair plant," he said.

Afanasyev noted that several rounds of negotiations were held on this topic, and also added that at the moment the conditions and parameters of cooperation are being worked out.

"Our shipyards can offer all types of vessels, ranging from small-sized to drilling platforms. With the creation of a new port and the Balkan shipyard in Turkmenbashi city, cooperation can be brought to a new level, cooperation can be made closer and mutually beneficial," the deputy chairman of the government said.

He also noted that Astrakhan shipyards have experience in production of marine equipment and offshore equipment, which is used for oil and gas production on the Caspian shelf.

Meanwhile, Turkmenistan is actively developing its shipbuilding industry, seeking to use its coastal position on the Caspian Sea. State investments in the creation of modern shipyards and the improvement of maritime infrastructure, as well as active cooperation with international partners, contribute to the establishment of Turkmenistan as one of the important players in the shipbuilding industry in the region, which contributes to the economic development of the country and strengthening its position in the global shipbuilding services market.
