BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 5. The Balkan shipyard and ship repair plant of Turkmenistan and the Korean Marine Equipment Association (KOMEA) have signed a contract for the construction of new vessels totaling $42 million, Trend reports.
According to the information, the contract was signed for the design, joint construction, and supply of components for vessels of the Multi-Purpose Carriers class with a displacement of 6,100 tons.
This project opens up an opportunity to create a basis for foreign exports for small and medium-sized enterprises in KOMEA for the production of ships and marine equipment, allowing them to take a good place in Turkmenistan.
Multipurpose vessels of this class with a length of 128 meters and a width of 16.5 meters can carry both bulk cargo and containers, and their characteristics are most suitable for the waters of the Caspian Sea, the Volga and Don rivers, as well as the Black Sea.
Meanwhile, the management of Turkmenistan's 'Turkmendenizderyayollary' Agency (Turkmen State Service of Maritime and River Transportation) held a meeting in September of this year with representatives of KOMEA and Koryo Shipbuilding Industry Technology Co., Ltd. (KSIT), during which the parties discussed the construction project of two bulk carriers at the Balkan shipyard and ship repair plant.
