ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, February 9. Turkmenistan's Balkan shipyard and ship repair plant and Koryo Shipbuilding Industry Technology Co., Ltd., (KSIT) will soon begin joint construction of ships, Trend reports.
According to the Turkmen Maritime and River Transport (Turkmendenizderyayollary) Agency, a preliminary plan was developed to implement the agreement signed on September 13, 2023, on the joint construction of two dry cargo ships with a capacity of 6,100 tons, which was concluded between the Balkan shipyard and ship repair plant and Koryo Shipbuilding Industry Technology Co., Ltd.
Furthermore, the parties plan to introduce a training program for specialists working in the production structure of the Balkan plant in the near future.
Meanwhile, Deputy Chairman of the Turkmen Maritime and River Transport Agency Seyitguly Bayseidov said during the Global Gateway Investors Forum for EU-Central Asia Transport Connectivity that the country had decided to build five vessels of various types this year, including three vessels for transporting general cargo and two Ro-Ro vessels.
He noted that the construction of various types of these vessels includes bulk carriers and universal ferries specialized for the transportation of rail and road transport.
