BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 20. The volume of Iran's grain imports via the Imam Khomeini port in Khuzestan province, southwest of the country, decreased by 48 percent in the current Iranian year (from March 21, 2023, through March 19, 2024) compared to the same period last year, Director of Government Trading Corporation of Iran’s branch in Khuzestan Province, Omid Jahannejadian said, Trend reports.
Citing to Jahannejadian, 1.3 million tons of grain were imported to the country via Imam Khomeini port this year.
He noted that grain imports through the above port decreased following the growth in the production of wheat and other grains in the country.
The official also said that the warehouses at Imam Khomeini port currently contain 30,000 tons of wheat, which will be transported to other regions of the country accordingly.
Meanwhile, Iran imports 80 percent of essential products (wheat, barley, rice, crude oil, etc.) through this port.
It's considered the second strategic port after Shahid Rajai port in Hormuzgan Province, located in the south.
The port has the potential to load and unload 60 million tons of oil and non-oil products per year.
