BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 27. A fertilizer terminal with an annual throughput capacity of 2.5 million tons has started operating at Baku International Sea Trade Port (BISTP), an informed source in the transport industry exclusively told Trend.

Near this new terminal are warehouses capable of storing 60,000 tons of different types of fertilizer.

"This complex has become the first public-private partnership project in BISTP, and with the involvement of foreign capital," the source said with no details.

Meanwhile, fertilizers from Kazakhstan and Central Asian countries (on average, about 100,000 tons per month) were actively transported through this port and the territories of Azerbaijan and Georgia (multimodal transit scheme).

"This terminal is mainly designed for the transit of fertilizers from Kazakhstan and Central Asian countries, and this year, with the launch of the terminal, it is expected to increase their transshipment," the source added.

To note, the total volume of transshipment of various types of cargo at BISTP reached more than 7.3 million tons in 2023 (an increase of 51 percent over the previous three years).
