BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 2. Romania has proposed to Azerbaijan to accelerate the organization of multimodal transportation of goods from Central Asian countries through the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and the Black Sea to Constanta port, the Secretary of the Romanian Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure of Adrian George Fogis said following a visit to Baku, Trend reports.
"Such a route to Europe will be short, economical, and clear. Constanta's port has various specialty ports, including those for oil and grain. This port accepts passenger ferries. Constanta Port works with 750 different foreign enterprises. It's one of the largest on the Black Sea, and cooperation with Azerbaijani firms and structures could be attractive," said the Romanian official.
He emphasized that the task of developing transportation
projects was reflected in the Intergovernmental Agreement between
Romania and Azerbaijan, which was signed in Romania in 2022 during
the 7th meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission (IGC) on Trade
and Economic Cooperation, and that the specifics of actual
cooperation opportunities are being worked out.
In addition, a deal was struck in the autumn of 2023 to connect the
Turkmenbashi and Aktau ports with the Constanta port via Azerbaijan
and Georgia.
The port of Constanta is one of Europe's top 20 largest ports,
comprising 3,926 hectares and capable of receiving up to 100
million tons of cargo per year (at 140 berths).
To note, the 8th meeting of the IGC took place in Baku, discussing a wide range of issues related to the development of bilateral and multilateral relations on April 1.
