BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 4. Azerbaijan Railways CJSC is carrying out construction works at Yalama station on the Russian border and the Sumgayit-Yalama railway line to increase opportunities for transportation of cargoes from and to the Russian Federation, Trend reports.
"A modern train line with two lanes is being built in the direction of Yalama. Due to ongoing construction work, the average speed of trains in this direction currently does not exceed 25–30 km/hour, preventing rapid transportation of goods; however, the works will be completed this year, and cargo flow will increase," according to social media information.
Additionally, it is also reported that currently 10 pairs of trains from the Russian Federation are received and dispatched at the station Yalama during the day.
"As a result of the expansion of the existing infrastructure, it is planned to increase this figure to 12 pairs," the information emphasized.
To note, this work also reflects the intentions of the Russian Federation and Azerbaijan to intensify the work of the international transport corridor North-South.
