BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 16. The volume of cargo transported by sea in Azerbaijan from January through March 2024 amounted to 1.936 million tons, which is 6.1 percent more compared to the corresponding period in 2023, the data of the State Statistics Committee (SSC) said, Trend reports.
Out of the total volume of sea cargo transportation, 49.6 percent came from oil cargoes.
The SSC also stated that loading and unloading operations were carried out in the seaports of Azerbaijan with a volume of cargoes of 3.32 million tons, of which 2.68 million tons (or 80.6 percent) were transit cargoes.
"As of April 1, 2024, the number of cargoes remaining in the ports of Azerbaijan was 197,500 tons," the SCC data noted.
Overall, the share of sea cargo transportation in the country's total cargo traffic amounted to 3.5 percent.
