ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, April 16. The North-South transport corridor will open up new opportunities for many countries, General Representative of Russian Railways in Turkmenistan Ivan Tonkikh stated on the sidelines of the 38th Conference of heads and responsible representatives of railway transport enterprises of the Organisation for Co-operation between Railways (OSJD) member countries in Ashgabat city, Trend reports.
"Today, we are actively developing the transport and logistics sector between our countries. Special attention is paid to the North-South corridor. The task of our general representative office is to attract the attention of the shipper, in particular, Russian companies," he said.
He noted that the Russian side is particularly interested in the development of this transport project, adding that Turkmenistan occupies a unique position in Central Asia, through which international trade routes pass.
"We live in the 'renaissance' and we are witnessing huge transit potentials from East to West and the revival of the 'Great Silk Road', but I am 100 percent sure that the potential that is embedded in the North-South transport corridor project. And, we will witness with you a new transport corridor that will open up completely new opportunities," concluded the representative of Russian Railways.
Meanwhile, the 38th meeting of the Conference of heads and responsible representatives of railway transport enterprises of the member countries of the Organisation for Co-operation between Railways (OSJD) began its work in Ashgabat city yesterday, which will last until April 19.
The event is attended by heads and senior representatives of railway departments from 19 OSJD member countries, as well as observers from four countries: Finland, France, Germany, and Greece.
