BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 26. The Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) railway transported 1.47 million tons of cargo from 2018 through 2023, according to Turkish media citing Türkiye's Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadır Uraloglu, Trend reports.
Uraloglu said that this figure will continue to increase as the importance of this transportation route grows for the region.
To note, the BTK, with a total length of 846 km, was opened at the end of 2017.
The railway passes through Azerbaijan for 504 km, through Georgia for 263 km, and through Türkiye for 79 km.
As of May 20, 2024, the capacity of the BTK has been increased to five million tons of cargo transportation per year.
The BTK is part of the Middle Corridor system.
