BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 28. The universal dry cargo ship Uzeyir Hajibeyli, which is on the balance sheet of Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company CJSC (ASCO), has carried out transportation of the next set of turbines and generators required for the new power plant “Azerbaijan TPP” under construction in Mingachevir, Trend reports via ASCO.
This is the second raid during the summer. The dry cargo shipped from the port of “Haydarpasha” in Türkiye to the port of “Garadagh” (Azerbaijan) last month delivered a turbine and a generator weighing more than 300 tons each.
The CJSC reminded that last year ASCO vessel was also involved in the delivery of gas turbines and generators manufactured by Italian company Ansaldo Energia to Azerbaijan for the new thermal power plant in Mingachevir.
Meanwhile, the foundation of a new thermal power plant (TPP) with a capacity of 1,280 megawatts was laid in Mingachevir in February 2023 (on the territory of the Azerbaijan TPP - the largest in the South Caucasus).
Azerenergy signed contracts with Ansaldo Energia last year regarding the construction, delivery, and installation of gas turbines and generators produced by this Italian company at the new station in Mingachevir.
Furthermore, Azerenergy earlier noted that as a result of the connection of the new power plant with a capacity of 1,280 megawatts and the existing seventh and eighth units of TPP Azerbaijan, the total capacity of the power facility in Mingachevir will amount to 1,880 megawatts.
The contract with Ansaldo Energia will allow increasing the efficiency of the thermal power plant from 18 to 56 percent.
The gas utilized in the gas turbines of the new 1,280-megawatt power plant will turn water into steam through utilization and will allow energy to be generated without the use of additional gas in the steam turbines of Units 7th and 8th of the Azerbaijan Thermal Power Plant.
The connection will save 800 million cubic meters of gas per year.
