BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 15. The airport construction in Lachin is just around the corner from wrapping up, acting executive director of the Restoration, Construction, and Management Service in the Lachin region, Tofig Islamov said at a panel discussion at the Caspian Construction Week in Baku, Trend reports.
"Restoration efforts for highways in the Lachin region are in progress, with around 80 kilometers of internal roads undergoing renovation. The establishment of the international airport will significantly enhance transportation connections and generate new prospects for augmenting Lachin's tourism potential. The airport development is nearing completion," he said.
Islamov mentioned that the airport is on track to be up and running by the end of this year.
To note, the construction of Lachin International Airport, which broke ground in 2021, is on track to wrap up in 2025. The airport runway will stretch a good 3,000 meters long and will measure 60 meters across. The airport is taking shape near the village of Gorchu, perched at a lofty 1,800 meters above sea level, and it’s set to be one of the highest-altitude airports in the post-Soviet realm.
The amenities at Lachin International Airport will pave the way for flights that meet the gold standard set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
