The number of registered domains in Uzbekistan was 14,000 as of late March in the UZ national domain zone compared to 13,4000 as of early 2012, a 4.5-per cent increase.

According to the Uzbek Agency for Communication and Information (UzACI), at present 54 per cent of 14,000 active domain names are registered by legal entities, 46 per cent physical entities. Some 83 per cent of domains account for the residents of Uzbekistan, including a network of local news web sites created in the national domain UZ, which is more than 10,000.

According to UzACI, the number of Internet users increased since early year by more than 200,000, exceeding the nine million mark.

Today Uzbekistan has six UZ domain registrars. They are Tomas, Arsenal-D, Billur Com, Sarkor Telecom, BCC in Tashkent, and Simus in Ferghana.

A second level UZ Domain was established in April 1995. Administrator of this level domain UZ is the centre for the development and introduction of computer and information technology UZINFOCOM.

UZINFOCOM was established in 2002 by presidential decree and is a structural division of the Uzbekistan Communications and Information Agency. UZINFOCOM aims to promote the development and implementation of a national ICT and computerisation programme.
