BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 25. The European Investment Bank (EIB) has several projects in the pipeline for Central Asia, a source at the EIB told Trend.

Among the projects under development, there are two energy projects planned to be implemented in Uzbekistan, which include the roll-out of auctions for solar energy projects, which was released in November 2022.

The EIB also plans to allocate a loan for district heating project in Uzbekistan. This project was released on July 29, 2019, and has been approved already.

Moreover, also plans to provide Uzbekistan with COVID-19 Public Healthcare loan. The project was released in July 2020, and is still waiting for the appraisal.

"We will continue to explore opportunities in engaging in access to finance support for the private sector in Central Asia, while supporting as much as possible their link to more green activities and practices," the source at the EIB said.

Meanwhile, the cooperation between the EIB and Central Asian countries is developing very well. EIB started operations in the region in 2011 in Tajikistan. Since then, the EIB operates in 4 countries in the region, namely Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. EIB does not have closed a Framework Agreement with Turkmenistan that would provide a legal basis for EIB activities in this country.
