Presidents of Kazakhstan, Korea meet in Akorda

Today in Akorda Palace President Nursultan Nazarbayev has met with his Korean counterpart Lee Myung-Bak, Kazinform reported.

Within the framework of the South Korean Leader's visit N. Nazarbayev was awarded with the highest state order of the Republic of Korea - the order of Mugunhwa. In turn, Lee Myung-Bak was awarded with Kazakhstan's Altyn Kyran Order for his personal contribution to the development of the Kazakh-Korean friendly relations.

The Korean President is expected to hold negotiations in narrow and extended formats. A number of bilateral agreements are to be signed following them. Lee Nyung-Bak will also take part in a Kazakh-Korean business-forum and in adoption of an Action Plan on development of the Korea-Kazakhstan bilateral cooperation.

In 2008 the mutual commodity turnover between the two countries made more than USD 750 mln. Since 1993 till 2008 the gross inflow of direct investment6 from South Korea to Kazakhstan was USD 3 bln. 300 joint enterprises with the participation of Korean capital are functioning in Kazakhstan at present. Among them are branches of Samsung, LG International, LG Electronics and several construction companies.
