71.98 percent of the voters or 6.6 million people have cast their ballots as of 6:00 pm at Sunday's election in Kazakhstan, deputy head of Central Election Commission Vladimir Foos said.

"40.31 percent voted in Astana city, 29.15 percent in Almaty city, 77.96 percent - Akmola region, 73.7 percent - Aktobe region, 91.29 percent - Almaty region, 83.52 percent - Atyrau region, 76.93 percent - the East Kazakhstan region, 79.44 percent - Zhambyl region, 67.7 percent - West Kazakhstan region, 65.4 percent - Karaganda region, 84.7 percent - Kostanay region, 80.82 percent - Kyzylorda region, 62.4 percent - Mangystau region, 70.5 percent - Pavlodar region, 76.68 percent - North Kazakhstan region, 78.62 percent - South-Kazakhstan region.

The elections to Majilis (lower house of the parliament) and maslikhats (local authorities) are held today in Kazakhstan. The preliminary election results will be announced on January 16.

The Nur Otan national-democratic party, Adilet, Kazakhstan Patriots' Party, Nationwide social-democratic party, Ak Zhol, Communist People's Party of Kazakhstan and the Kazakh Social Democratic Party Auyl are taking part in the elections.
