Natural managers in Kazakhstan fined $168 million

Large natural managers have been fined 25 billion tenge ($168 million) for violating environmental law in 2011, Environment Minister Nurlan Kapparov said at an enlarged meeting of the board today.
Some 12,000 business inspections were carried out in 2011, Kapparov said. More than 9,000 violations were revealed, 8,300 regulations were imposed, 8,500 administrative fines were charged and 1,500 claims for damages totaling 25 billion tenge were lodged.
Penalty provisions worth 18.3 billion tenge have been charged in 2011 to the state's revenue.
