Putting Kazakhstan on the list of countries supporting terrorism is a mistake, U.S. Ambassador to Kazakhstan Kenneth Fairfax said at a press-conference on Wednesday.
"It was a mistake and a misinterpretation. The U.S. has never designated Kazakhstan as a country posing any threat to us," Mr Fairfax said.
In July, the U.S.Department of Homeland Security listed Kazakhstan among "specially designated countries" that "have shown a tendency to promote, produce, or protect terrorist organizations or their members."
The Kazakh Foreign Ministry expressed bewilderment over the report. The U.S. diplomatic mission in Kazakhstan disseminated a statement saying the U.S. doesn't consider Kazakhstan a country supporting terrorism.
