Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi during his visit to Astana met with his Kazakh counterpart Yerzhan Kazykhanov, IRNA reported.
The sides discussed the processes in the region, particularly in Syria and Afghanistan, including the fate of the project of the UN-Arab League special representative Kofi Annan to overcome crisis in Syria.
The ministers also exchanged views on development of bilateral relations.
Salehi said there is great potential for expanding cooperation between the two countries. He finds it necessary to increase trade turnover and investment between Iran and Kazakhstan. It's also necessary to develop contacts in the political, cultural and scientific spheres, the Iranian Foreign Minister said.
Kazykhanov noted that Salehi's visit coincided with the 20th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between Kazakhstan and Iran.
He also supported the view of his Iranian counterpart on the need to deepen economic and political cooperation.
