Almaty International Airport opens new terminal

Almaty International Airport in Kazakhstan opened a new passenger Terminal 2 designated for domestic flights departures, the airport reported on Friday.

"To meet the passengers' needs, the Almaty airport management took a decision to reconstruct the old building and connect it to the main Terminal by a gallery," the airport said.

The modernizing was carried with modern technologies and the latest equipments.
Following the modernization, the passengers waiting for their flights in the terminal can spend their time in comfortable bars, watching TV. Moreover 'mother and child' room and toilets for handicapped persons appeared in the terminal.

The terminal's first floor was designed for domestic arrivals. It was equipped with baggage belt conveyors and elevators enabling the passengers to move from the air bridges.
The second floor will be used as an assembly point for domestic departures.

"This measure will enable to increase the airport capacity up to 1,600 passengers per hour, and cope with the growing passenger flow in the nearest 3-4 years," the airport said.

Currently, the average passenger flow of the Almaty International Airport is 10.950 people per day.
