CSTO prepares comprehensive plan for Afghanistan

The CSTO has prepared a comprehensive plan on Afghanistan, CSTO Secretary General Nikolai Bordyuzha said at a press conference today.

The plan is based of analysis carried out during the year of Kazakhstan's chairmanship of the CSTO.

"I can say that the situation in Afghanistan was examined upon Kazakhstan's initiative," he said. "We have prepared a comprehensive plan for challenges on the basis of our forecasts that could be followed in the case deterioration of Afghanistan situation."

While summing up the year's results, he said that in general, the previous year was quite successful.

"The main thing is that there was relative stability in CSTO countries," he said. "There were no serious negative social and political phenomena. We believe that the whole situation is quite favorable for these countries' development."

He said that special attention was paid to practical activity to ensure the security of the organization's member-states.

"This concerned drug trafficking, activity in the field of illegal migration, human trafficking and informational counter operations," he said. "We got good results. The situation was analyzed in the most difficult areas. We were monitoring the situation in Afghanistan and developing specific proposals. The actions were taken to strengthen the organization's capacity for power."
