About 700 foreigners were deported from Kazakhstan during the first phase of an operation titled ‘Illegal Alien’, according to a press release of the Interior Ministry released on Monday.

About 700 foreigners were deported from Kazakhstan during the first phase of an operation titled 'Illegal Alien', according to a press release of the Interior Ministry released on Monday.

"15,465 foreigners and stateless persons were brought to administrative liability for violations of their rules of stay in Kazakhstan, including 15,016 citizens of CIS member states and 449 citizens of other foreign countries. 687 foreigners were expelled from the country by court decisions, including 680 from the CIS and seven from other foreign countries," the press release says.

The first phase of the operation was carried out between May 13-17, in accordance with a decision of the working group under the Chief Executives Board of the competent authorities of the Member States of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) for the fight against illegal migration.

"128 wanted persons were detained, 74 criminal cases were initiated for violation of immigration legislation," the press release says.
